Blue Man Group’s creators and original stars are returning to the stage at the Astor Place Theatre for their 20th reunion, and they have a special guest opening for them. Dave Matthews will play a pre-show concert on stage at the Astor Place Theatre on April 13. After Matthews’ set, the original trio of Chris Wink, Philip Stanton and Matt Goldman will once again go Blue to celebrate their long-running show.
Grammy winner Matthews is no stranger to Blue Man Group. He performed the number “Sing Along” on their 2003 album Complex and has remained friends with Wink, Stanton and Goldman.
Blue Man Group’s inventive brand of entertainment first bowed off-Broadway in 1991. The show, which blends music, comedy and multimedia theatrics, recently added new material exploring cutting-edge technology (such as iPads)and pop culture (such as a nod to Lady Gaga) into its long-running production. “As artists, we have grown and the world around us has transformed; our new material is curated to reflect this,” Wink said about the updates.
The 20th anniversary show, featuring Matthews, will benefit the Blue School, a lab school in New York City co-founded by the Blue Man Group in 2006.
